The Psychology of Entertainment

The study of entertainment brings out many psychological aspects of active-passive participation in emotional or mental adventure and these could be
1. Identification - Viewers often identify with characters in movies or figures in art and this strong identification helps explain the value of entertainment. Young children have seen to imitate film stars as they begin identifying with movie characters.
2. Fantasy - Entertainment feeds on the need for fantasy in people and provides an escape route from the real world. Addiction to entertainment could be the basis of reality anxiety in people.
3. Projection - Individuals tend to project their own emotions or state of mind on to a painting or a song and could derive pleasure from this
4. Regression - Entertainment could often remind individuals of their past or a part of their own life they may have forgotten and in some cases bring out the child in them. For example when older people enjoy video games, it brings back their childhood and they may become addicted to this sort of entertainment.
5. Sublimation - Entertainment is also a form of sublimation of our impulsive desires and this especially true when we participate in entertainment as in the interpretation of art
6. Displacement - In non participative and passive forms of entertainment, individuals tend to escape from reality and displace their emotions from real people to characters in movies. For example a teenager in love with a girl whom he cannot attain may fall in love with a character of a movie who may have similarities with his dream girl.
All of the above processes are ego defense mechanisms delineated by Freud and the interplay of so many defense mechanisms in entertainment suggest that entertainment is more than simply a source of pleasure and could trigger complex psychological processes in the human mind. More research would be required in this field of psychology for a complete understanding of the advantages or disadvantages of entertainment in modern society.

Online Dating Services

At the onset, choose the website well. Out of the thousands of sites available, choose one which would best define the kind of person that you want to meet and the relationship that you want to have. People go through internet dating for many reasons – acquaintances, love, long term relationships. You don't want to join an adult dating services site if you are looking for a serious relationship. In the same way, if you are seeking for a soulmate or lifetime partner, then avoid these sexual or erotic sites. Be specific in choosing a website. You will be amazed at the wide variety of websites available.
Be truthful in the profile that you post, without actually revealing too many details about you. In doing so, you are able to attract people with the same interests or background as yours. If you tend to mislead or deceive people by giving out false information, you lose their trust, and lose them in the process. Choose your most flattering picture to upload. Make sure that the picture best reflects your personality, whether conservative, fun or sexy. This way, you are able to get the attention of the right people.
Despite the perils of internet dating, there are still many people who choose to go through the experience. This is because online dating services are still the fastest and easiest way to meet new people. Instead of focusing on the negative, think of the advantages that these sites can provide. In other words, make the system work for you. In the process, enjoy the ride without forgetting to take precautionary measures. You will soon realize that online dating can be a fun, exciting experience after all.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR PLANTS (6 unique tips)

Many people worry a lot when it comes to caring for their plants. When talking about house plants, there is no need to worry. There are just a few things you need to consider.

1. Watering

Overwatering kills most houseplants. Looks can be deceptive, so to see if your soil is dry enough to water, try the finger test. Insert your index finger up to the first joint into the soil. If the soil is damp, don't water it.

2. Feeding

Foliage plants usually have high nitrogen needs, while flowering plants, K2O is needed. Slow release fertilizers can be mixed with the compost. However, certain plants like cacti and orchids need special fertilizer. Feed plants during their most active growth period.

3. Lighting

Plants like Sanseveria and Aspidistra require no sun. They can be placed away from a window. Spider plants need semi-shade. You can put plants like these near a window that does or does not get sunlight. Check the label to see what your plant needs.

4. Temperature

Houseplants can survive in cool or warm temperatures, but drastic fluctuations of temperature may not be good for them. One thing that most plants cannot survive is gas heating. If you have a plant that likes warm conditions, don't put it near an air conditioner in the summer.

5. Humidity

Some houseplants require a humid environment. One tip to maximize humidity is to put the pot inside a larger pot and fill in the gaps with stones or compost to keep in the moisture. Grouping plants together often creates a microclimate that they will benefit from. If you want, you can spray them with water once or twice a day depending on the temperature.

6. Re-potting

Some plants require re-potting for optimum growth but there are others that resent having their roots disturbed. Or their roots system may be small enough that they don't require re-potting. One way to check if your plant needs re-potting is to turn it upside down. Tap the pot to release the plant and check its roots. If roots are all you see, then re-pot. Sometimes the roots will come out of the pot. You should either cut them off or re-pot the plant.

You just need to have a little care for your plants and in turn, you'll reap the benefits. Indoor plants not only add to the beauty of your décor, but also give much pleasure to the indoor gardener.
